Phase two of the Dh1.7bn Business Bay project is underway.

Omniyat Properties announced yesterday the completion of first phase of construction work on its The Opus project. Construction on the Dh1.7 billion development in Business Bay is well into the second stage with piling works and first basements completed and Brookfield Multiplex, the main contractor, going forward with structural works towards the ground level. When this process began, it took the contractor 22 consecutive hours to pour more than 5,000 cubic metres of concrete for the first two large foundations, reinforced with more than 1,000 tonnes of steel. Mark Phoenix, head of commercial at the developer, said: 'With the completion of the enabling work and the second phase of construction well underway, we are confident that the project will be completed on schedule. There are more than 400 workers on site and we expect this number to increase as we continue through 2010.' Designed by international architect Zaha Hadid, the building's total built up area is 85,000 square metres and consists of 23 levels. Five floors are allocated for retail use and the remaining 18 for commercial use.
