Centro Svizzero in Milan

This highrise was part of the first batch of skyscrapers and highrises built in Milan during the '50s, along with Grattacielo Pirelli, Torre Velasca and Torre Breda among the others. The building was designed by the Swiss architect Armin Meili and the Italian architect Giovanni Romano for Milan's Swiss Center (Centro Svizzero di Milano) and, from its 21 floors and 80m, it dominates piazza Cavour and the northern entrance of the public park entitled after the journalist Indro Montanelli (known as Giardini Pubblici since their institution in 1782).
The building was the highest highrise in Milan from its completion in 1952 until 1960, when the Pirelli Tower was completed. It currently hosts a wide range of Swiss institutions: the Consulate, the Swiss Institute of Rome, the Swiss Center of Milan, the Swiss Commerce Chamber in Italy, the Swiss Tourist Board, the Swiss Society and the Swiss Broadcasting Company in Italian language.
