OVG has started building the new office for KPMG and KPMG Meijburg in The Hague. The building, of more than 10,000 m², is one of the first projects of a prestigious area development in the Prins Willem Alexander Quarter next to the A12. Around 150,000 m² of offices and ancillary amenities are due to be built in this area. This development is the first in a long-term partnership agreement for the City of The Hague and OVG.
The Prins Willem Alexander Quarter is The Hague’s new multifunctional business centre at a clearly visible location at the A12/A4 interchange. The location has excellent access by public transport thanks to its location next to Ypenburg Station. Mecanoo Architecten has designed the urban development plan and it borders on the Plas van Reef with its greenery and water.
The firm of architects Meyer en Van Schooten Architecten from Amsterdam were responsible for the transparent and sustainable design that will characterize the building for KPMG and KPMG Meijburg, where the driving force is the welfare of the user. The facade consists for the most part of glass allowing a large amount of natural light to enter. An atrium in the central section and entrance of the building gives the building a very spacious and open character. Underground thermal exchange storage will control the building’s climate in an energy-efficient manner.
KPMG and KPMG Meijburg will lease the entire building on the Catharina-Amaliastraat, which will be delivered in early 2011. This project is being developed in close cooperation with the City of The Hague, Dura Vermeer and Fortis Bank Nederland Real Estate Finance. Construction work started in September 2009.
