The Westin in Chongqing

This is one of seven taller buildings designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox for a Financial Street cluster. All the towers will be built down JieFangBei 51 Road, Chongqing's future answer to Wall Street. The buildings slice through the existing cluster and range in heights from 180 metres to 430 metres, 400 metres if you include the spire of the tallest. Once complete it will provide 900,000 square metres of usable space.

All of the skyscrapers have a classic look of Americana about them. The architects using the tried and tested squared looked thus tying all of the towers together visually rather than having seven uniquely looking towers that may give the impression of seven stand alone projects. All are fully glazed with glass curtain walls and stand on podiums and could be at home on any skyline around the world. The towers are placed in such a way as the eye is drawn upwards to the tallest tower then it arcs down through the smaller towers and back up again in a semi circular pattern.

The Westin, aka Financial Street Tower 5 will be a 130 000 square metre large hotel, the first building to be built in the project. Ground was broken in late 2009.
