Crane house at the Osthafen
The area along Stralauer Allee 3 in Berlin- Friedrichshain, which borders on the “Spreespeicher” (old grain elevator on the River Spree) will be the site of a 4 star hotel with attached eating and conference facilities, spa area and underground car park.
The complex has 2 U-shaped blocks which each open toward a terrace on the River Spree. The ground floors of both blocks are completely built over by a connecting structure of glass which supports the impression of an urban planning caesura between the blocks. The blocks are also connected with a glazed catwalk in each of the 7 full storeys above ground. Above them 4 further full storeys will be realized in the west block, of which each of the upper 3 will protrude further toward the River Spree to convey the image of a “crane house”.
The hotel areas for the public, such as the lobby, reception, bar and restaurant areas, as well as the kitchen and some back of house areas and conference area are organised on the ground floor. The 10 upper storeys will contain about 307 guest rooms, including double rooms, junior suites, a president's room and 10 guest rooms fitted for handicapped persons. Some of the guest rooms can be combined with others by means of connecting doors.
