A new building is being planned on a location next to a confluence of 2 canals in the center of Ghent. The concept of the design has ben chosen through a competition, in which RCR arquitectos (Girona) icw. Coussée & Goris (Ghent) won over other designers such as Toyo Ito and UNstudio.
The main purpose of this building is to be the new location for the Central Municipal Library of the city, which will take up most of the space. Besides that, there will also be a "Center for New Media", an audiovisual archive, and offices for the local university.
