Filipstad in Oslo

This is the masterplan concept for Filipstad from 2006.

Filipstad is south-facing with an attractive view of the Oslo Ford archipelego. Filipstad forms an important part of the Fjord City vision as an attractive seaside multi-use area. Filipstad has a newly reinforced quayside capable of supporting residential construction.

The container port at Filipstad was moved south of the city to Sjursøya in January 2008, but Filipstad is still home to warehouses and dry goods handling. NSB (Norwegian State Railways) maintains goods and holding yards in the area. One of Oslo's two international ferry terminals, located at Hjortnes, has been expanded to accommodate new cruise class ferries serving the Oslo-Kiel route.

The Fjord City plan suggests development of the area as downtown Oslo's recreational center. This includes mixed-use solutions with significant areas dedicated to housing, public parks, commercial properties and an expanded ferry terminal, all served by a new tram line. Development options involve consideration of routing the E18 motorway through a tunnel.
