On 10 April 2003, the Federal Security Council decided to concentrate the BND in Berlin, the seat of the Federal Government. On the basis of this decision, major
components of the BND headquarters will be shifted from Pullach, Bavaria, to downtown Berlin. To this end, a new building complex is being erected in the area of the former "Stadion der Weltjugend" (Stadium of the World Youth) on Chausseestrasse. This complex will have a gross building floor area of 260,000 square metres, where up to 4,000 BND staff members will be working as from 2013.
