Elliott Street Upgrade in Auckland

The Auckland City Council have released the plans for [ELLIOTT STREET] turning it into a shared street where cars and pedestrians share the space equally without any dumb bollocky traffic signs, kerbs and tarmac anywhere. Plans are also afoot to turn [DARBY STREET] into a pedestrian mall where you will not have to share the space with cars - hallelujah !

According to ACC's website, the aim is to provide greater pedestrian priority throughout the area with more space for people, provide more space for outdoor dining, to better connect the area with surrounding street networks and to create high quality, attractive streetscape. When complete we will be able to sit, relax, linger, dine, shop and sing in the streets. The entire width of [ELLIOTT STREET] will be paved and kerbs will be removed so that cafes can spill out into the street. All of [DARBY STREET] will be pedestrianised with public seating, nikau palms (what else), new lighting and alfresco dining.
