Manukau Civic Court is the principle public space in Manukau City and sets the tone and character for the city’s CBD. The redesign was based on a thorough analysis and understanding of the way this space worked in relation to the surrounding activities and in the broader social context of the city itself. The design represents, through abstraction of design rather than direct representation, the diverse cultures and people of Manukau City. Isthmus Group were responsible for concept development, developed and detail design and site supervision. Our role as design leaders entailed coordinating the architects, engineering works and lighting design. Principal works also included proposals for opening up the buildings along the edges of the space to generate and promote a diversity of uses within the space.
