According to the Rebosis newsletter released today: Bay West will become Port Elizabeth’s newest super regional shopping centre with a GLA of 80 000 m2 . Seventy-five percent commitment has been received from national tenants to date. The mall’s pulling power stems from its location, close to the highway exchange, its dominant tenant mix in an upscale environment, and its location in a high-growthnode with more than 30 000 households. Bay West, being developed in association with Abacus Group as joint-venture developers is expected to open in 2014.

The overall development will encompass a full range of land uses such as retail malls, office parks, residential nodes, private schools with associated sporting facilities, hotels, a hospital complex, motor city, a light industrial precinct and a lifestyle centre. The estimated project value is R12 billion over 15 years with the first phase being the construction of a 80000 sqm regional mall, to be known as Bay West Mall.
