Nytt klarsignal til Kunsthøgskolen
Kunnskapsdepartementet har gitt Statsbygg grønt lys til å gå videre i arbeidet med å utarbeide et forenklet skisseprosjekt for nybygget til Kunsthøgskolen i Bergen.
Dermed er nybygget ett skritt nærmere å bli realisert.

This project has been on hold for several years now, but good news has just been published. Ministry of Education and Research have just given Statsbygg (developer of the project) approval to continue the planning of the project. They hope the new academy will be completed in 2015.

This project for the National Academy of the Arts (KHiB) is located on the shores of lake Store Lungegårdsvann and flanked by the three mountains; Fløyen, Ulrikken and Løvstakken in the city of Bergen on the west coast of Norway. The new Academy building will be situated at the foot of this powerful landscape, looking out over the lake and the distant city skyline.
In this new location the Academy will become an important generator for the new urban development of the city along the shores of the lake, and become an important icon for the cultural life of Bergen.
Overall concepts and aims:
- The building, roof and the surrounding landscape the new school shall blend into the existing situation, in relation to climate and the wider landscape.
- To establish a strong link between the public environment, the city life and the institutional life.
- The institution shall have a clear communication with the city centre of Bergen to help bring its cultural environment into the new city district.
- The site has a tough climate with regards rain and cold air drainage. This is to be a determining factor in forming and shaping the building, protecting the institutions outdoor activities and creating a good local internal/external climate.
The institution shall with its physical and metaphysical structure become a free zone for artistic activity.
