Baku Residential Complex in Baku

The project designed by Korean Heerim Architects consists of 46-story and 37-story residential towers, a five-story podium and three basement levels.

Since Baku is subject to extreme wind and seismic forces, the structural floor system is composed of a 200-milimeter flat slab and perimeter with an interior moment frame to resist severe wind and seismic loads. The primary lateral load-resisting system for the building is a special reinforced-concrete shear wall and a special reinforced-concrete moment frame to create a dual system.

The curved towers, inspired by the crescent moon, have special requirements for facade panelization that allows for flat, rectangular unitized facade systems with dry silicone gaskets. The towers are approximately 200 meters high with steel-glass crown features at the top.

Parametric modeling tools such as Digital Project/Catia software were used by American Thornton Tomasetti to determine the best geometry for the facade units, thereby reducing fabrication and erection costs.
