Stiftelsen Arkivet in Kristiansand

Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter won the invited competition for “Stiftelsen Arkivet” (The Archive) in Kristiansand, a National Center for Peacebuilding and for historical reflection and dialogue among generations.

The Archive is a national center for human rights and historical reflection, where the existing building and the new building is resolved within the idea of dialogue and social interaction. The starting point for the project is the existing building, which form the basis for the center with its clear and rudimentary shapes, materials and construction. The circulation and accessability are prominent in the structuring of the center. Varying visual room sequences are created with basis in the structure from the existing with connection towards the landscape, the site, as well as the building interior. The interconnection between the existing and the new build creates a dialogue between the two unities, which appear as one single entity.
