Torre Iberdrola in Bilbao

Torre Iberdrola will be the highlight of the regeneration project for Bilbao's Abandoibarra district. The Tower will bring a symbolic touch to the diagonal Calle Elcano and, with its 165 m in height, will create a new landmark on the skyline of Bilbao.

It will stand in the Campa de Los Ingleses gardens, flanked by the lower residential buildings helping to define the Plaza de Euskadi. It will be accessed through an enormous glass-covered space opening out towards the square between the buildings.

The building will have the shape of a triangular prism with curved sides tapering slightly towards the sky, not unlike an enormous glass obelisk. The sides of this prism will meet symbolically at a height of 1,000 metres.

The facades, with their double glass casing, will ensure sustainability and efficient climatic control, while affording excellent views of the city and its Estuary. These 'bioclimatic walls' will have exterior double-glazing and interior single-glazing with windows that can be opened and closed. The air chamber between the two will contain adjustable curtains for reducing the bothersome effects of extreme climatic conditions. The use of glass with a low-emissivity coating will enhance its occupants' perception of the outside atmosphere.
