Fjordporten in Oslo

Fjordporten is a proposed highrise together with the reconstruction of Oslo Central Station which will start in 2013. The tower and the rest of the station is designed by Space Group and won the competition between 4 international architect teams in June 2008.

This building is planned to contain the largest conferance hotel in Norway. Its situated above the Airport Express Terminal and is shaped as a U to protect the sight from Karl Johans Gate (Oslo's most famous pedestrian street) towards Ekeberg.

Currently, the Central Station receive 150,000 travellers every day, number expected to double in the next few years, rendering the current structure obsolete. Space Group“s project will be able to grow in stages. Construction will start on 2013, during 5 to 10 years. Quite a lot, but since the project will be done in stages the Central Station can be in use during the entire reconstruction period.
