The Charleston is a very special project for us architects of Hilmer & Sattler und Albrecht. For the development of Berlin’s new old centre, the foundation stone of which was laid with our master plan in 1991, is thus provided with its worthy keystone. Worthy, as The Charleston underlines the area’s regained metropolitan character through a metropolitan residential quarter. And because here, classic European constructional tradition presents itself in a 21st century style: what emerges here is a residential palace in the best city centre location, an optimistic symbol in the urban space that, with its colonnades, columns and an expressive entrance, radiates solidity and elegance for miles around – and whose neatly designed garden with a fountain and a circular colonnade passage sets Italian accents. The lettering carved in stone therefore represents more than just the building’s name. It is an expression of high demands, value and quality – all of which are synonyms for The Charleston.
